We’ve all found ourselves on a Sunday morning, wanting nothing more than to relax. However, the dreaded deep clean looms over our heads. The thought of cleaning grime and dirt in the bathroom always ends up at the bottom of the to-do list.

There are plenty of common problems when it comes to the upkeep of our bathrooms. The bathroom is a breeding ground for limescale and watermarks which can be tricky to clean. On top of that, you have the possibility of mould due to the damp and humid environment.

There’s also the task of unblocking drains and cleaning your surfaces. Overall, cleaning the bathroom is very unglamorous and time consuming. So, you probably ask yourself over and over: how do I keep my bathroom clean everyday? Fear not, we are here to help!

Read on to discover 8 bathroom cleaning hacks without having to dedicate hours to cleaning.

1. Clean As You Go

A rule to live by in life is clean as you go along. This rule can be applied to many things: tidying up while you get ready and cleaning your pots and surfaces as you cook.

The bathroom is another place you can easily clean as you go along, with a hack we saw go viral across social media! This hack involves keeping a soap dispensing brush, such as a dishmatic, in your bathroom. You don’t need to bother with fancy cleaning liquids either. Washing up liquid works brilliantly at cleaning bathroom tiles and surfaces.

Whilst in the shower waiting for your conditioner to soak in, use the time to give your shower tiles a clean. Once finished, simply rinse your tiles down with warm water. You will step out of the shower not only feeling clean in yourself but will have a clean environment.

Your shower room will be gleaming after each use, and will save you from doing a weekly deep clean.

2. Demist And Clean Your Mirrors With Shaving Foam

There’s nothing worse than stepping out of the shower and trying to continue your grooming routine with a misted mirror. You then have to decide whether to wait for the mirror to de-mist itself or to wipe it down, leaving a streaky surface.

Luckily, thanks to another hack that went viral across social media, you can use shaving foam to solve this issue

Applying shaving foam to your mirror with a microfiber cloth will prevent it from misting up for a couple of weeks. Plus, this method will leave your mirror streak free and get rid of annoying finger marks. As a result, you won’t have to clean as often!

You will find that a lot of our mirrors do come with a built-in de-mister. However, you should still use shaving foam for its cleaning benefits.

3. Unclog Your Drain

A household hack that everyone should be aware of, is how to efficiently unclog your drains. It’s a nightmare when your shower starts draining slowly, and you’re left showering in a puddle of water.

Blocked drains are extremely common, with the most common cause being a mixture of soap and hair. Clogged drains can be dissolved by a quick and easy mixture of white vinegar and baking soda. Luckily most households will have these items lying around.

Simply pour equal parts (around a cup) of each item down the clogged drain and leave it to work its magic. After 15 minutes, the two ingredients should have worked to break down the clog. Flushing the mixture with boiling water should remove all of the blockage and leave your shower or bath drain working efficiently.

If you are still experiencing issues then the underlying cause might be a lot more severe. In this case, we would also recommend you seek professional advice from a plumber.

4. Create Long Lasting Fresh Scents

This hack is not exclusively for the bathroom, however it is an added tip to leave your room smelling fresh.

All you need is the trusty dishmatic (a separate one than the one you keep in the shower!). You should fill the dishmatic with your favourite fabric softener. Running the dishmatic along your skirting boards will clean the surface, and leave behind a fresh scent.

Try this method out in any of your household rooms and it will be filled with the pleasant long lasting smell.

5. Clean Your Shower Head For Maximum Efficiency

Possibly one of the most neglected parts of our bathroom when it comes to cleaning it is the shower head. If the shower head is not cleaned properly, it develops into a limescale which isn’t the nicest to look at. Unclean shower heads can also cause issues such as constant water dripping and an inconsistent water spray pattern.

To efficiently clean your shower head you should use a fine tooth brush, white vinegar, and hot water. Giving the shower head nozzles a good scrub will break down any build up and will help it perform optimally.

We have plenty of shower heads available, suited to any type of bathroom aesthetic and can be easily detached for cleaning.

6. Say Goodbye To Stubborn Watermarks

Another clean as you go hack to make your life easier, involves keeping a squeegee in your bathroom.

A squeegee should be used at the end of every shower to wipe down your shower screen or enclosure. Doing so will remove the excess water, in turn preventing water marks and limescale from appearing. These can be extremely stubborn and difficult to clean, requiring special cleaning liquids and a whole lot of scrubbing. So make your life easier and add the squeegee into your daily bathroom routine, you will thank yourself later!

We have a wide variety of shower door styles available to suit every type of interior design. With your new cleaning hack, your new shower door will be sparkling everyday!

7. Ditch The Bathroom Cleaners

Bathroom cleaners can be marketed really well. With TV adverts showing their advanced cleaning effects and influencers promoting the latest cleaning products, it can be hard to resist trying these products for yourself. However, these products can often come with a lot of added harmful ingredients, which aren’t necessary.

Using harsh cleaning products on your bathroom fixtures will not only create streaks, but can erode the chrome finish. Once your bathroom routine is complete, use a dry towel to wipe down your taps and shower. Doing so will remove any water marks and prevent the finish from peeling away.

8. Get Rid Of The Rust

We had to save one of the best bathroom cleaning tips until last. This is a favourite at Bathroom Takeaway, and you probably won't believe us until you try it for yourselves. This hack is to get rid of rust, something that we find in most bathrooms.

Unfortunately due to environmental factors, rust can easily occur in the bathroom on your chrome fixtures. You might have thought that once rust appears there is no return. However, you will be pleased to know that rust can be removed with minimal effort using a household favourite - tin foil!

Simply get a few strips of tin foil and dip them in water. The water will act as a lubricant between the oil and chrome. This lubricant will help remove the rust from your bathroom fixtures. Rub the dampened tin foil up and down the chrome, and the rust should start disappearing.

We know it sounds odd, and we were sceptical at first until we saw the results. This is a serious game-changer which you need to try.

Bathroom Cleaning FAQs

What Should I Use To Clean Bathroom Handles And Accessories?

If you have chrome finished handles, accessories, and fixtures in your bathroom then you want to avoid bathroom sprays. Bathroom sprays contain a lot of strong chemicals which aren’t necessary and can corrode the chrome. Instead, use a damp clean cloth to wipe the surface, and dry with a clean towel for a sparkling clean finish.

How Do I Clean My Taps Without Damaging Them?

Similar to your chrome bathroom accessories, you don’t want to use any products which are too abrasive. An everyday clean can be done with a quick wipe with a microfibre cloth, removing excess water and preventing water spots.

If you have waterfall taps in your bathroom then you want to use the same method for cleaning. However as more of the tap is exposed, you may notice limescale more than you would on standard taps. Not to worry, waterfall taps can easily be cleaned. Check out our helpful blog post on how to maintain your waterfall taps.

With our list of bathroom cleaning tips, cleaning your bathroom will no longer be a chore that you dread every week.
