Long gone are the days where bathroom decor is only available in shades of blue and turquoise! Bathroom decor is just as customisable now as any other room in the house, with everything from botanical vibes, scandi accents and monochrome madness featuring as the hottest trends over the last few years!

The latest trend to take hold of the bathroom industry is the tropical bathroom; bright, bold and beautiful. This is one trend that isn’t for the faint-hearted, but one that can be toned down with clever choices. With variations cropping up all over the UK, in particular in England and Wales, tropical green bathrooms and even jungle theme bathrooms appear to be here to stay and we’re living for it.

“How do I create a tropical bathroom,” we hear you ask? Fear not, although this is a statement trend that can really transform a bathroom design, it may not be as daunting as you first think. It’s easy to achieve that full tropical bathroom look and tropical feel. With some creativity and by following these interior design tips, you’ll be living your best tropical style bathroom life in no time!

How Do I Make My Bathroom Look Tropical?

Be Brave With Wall Covering Choices

There are more choices than ever before when it comes to selecting finishes for bathroom walls. Whereas once upon a time, tiles may have been the only option, you can now choose to cover your walls with tiles, bathroom paint, vinyl wallpaper or even wall panels.

These options give more scope when trying to create your tropical bathroom paradise. Any of the options allow you to not just combine colour, but also texture which adds depth and perspective to any room.

How brave you’re feeling may dictate which type of wall covering you go for. Choosing green tiles would be a simple way of bringing in a tropical bathroom vibe without being too adventurous.

Elements of green are definitely essential to create a tropical or jungle theme bathroom as the colour green is consistently associated with nature and growth. When thinking of the tropics, luscious greenery is definitely up there with the imagery we see and imagine.

If you are feeling bold however and fully committed to creating that tropical bathroom reminiscent of the rainforest, vinyl wallpaper or wall panels would definitely be a better option for you! Available in a variety of different motifs, the possibilities are endless if going for one of these options. As wall panels gain popularity in bathrooms for their ease of fitting, maintenance and cleaning, it seems like a no-brainer to take advantage of this type of wall covering for your new tropical bathroom.

Bromelia Wall Panels In A Tropical Themed Bathroom
Shower Wall offer a variety of different types of wall covering but their acrylic range are the ones that tend to have the striking prints which are bound to make an impact in your tropical bathroom. Their Bromleia Bathroom Wall Panels are the perfect vibe to create that feel of tropical decor, featuring a variety of luscious leaves and tropical style plants.

Bringing in hints of pink and black as well also gives more room to play with colour. Now imagine soaking in a luxurious freestanding bath with the visions of the jungle in your bathroom after a hard day at the office - bliss!

Statement Vs Contrasting Suites

Now you’ve got your statement wall figured out for your jungle theme bathroom, you’re going to need a bathroom suite to compliment your bold choice!

Now, there are two routes you could go down at this point; you could be both bold and brave selecting some statement pieces to suit your adventurous wall covering. Alternatively, you could tone down your suite choices in contrast to your tropical décor statements if you’re not feeling so adventurous.

Contrasting Suites

If you feel like your wall covering is your desired main feature, choosing muted suites with varying textures will create the contrast needed to keep this as the prominent feature. The Calm Grey range is understated yet stylish with a walnut wood effect, which would be the perfect contrast to a tropical statement wall.

You could also look to bring in light golden tones to create the feel of tropical bamboo, in which case may be more your style.

Statement Suites

If bold and beautiful is more your thing, why not add more colour and features to your tropical bathroom to compliment your jungle theme bathroom statement wall. Bland bathroom suites are a thing of the past, with so many more options than wishy-washy white available.

Highlight the shade of green from your statement wall with the Green Imperio Pure range. Or create a contrast with another daring colour like the pale pink of the Imperio Paris range.

Similarly with brassware, you could keep it simple by opting for standard chrome taps and showers, or you could choose to be different by selecting black brassware or even brushed brass which would create that gorgeous contrast, and add a touch of luxury.

Textures

Textures are not something to be overlooked when asking yourself “how do I make my bathroom look tropical?” The mixing of textures can change the feel of any room and a bathroom is no different. Varying textures can help to create perspective in bathrooms and direct attention to statement features.

To create a tropical bathroom, combining natural textures will add to the tropical style and the idea of bringing the outside in.

Wood, tile and stone are the perfect textures to balance manufactured textures such as porcelain and acrylic. Pairing a wood-effect vanity unit with a slate effect shower tray for example, is a great offset against an acrylic wall panel covering.

Tropical Decor

Now you’ve got the bones of your new tropical bathroom in place, those finishing touches can’t be overlooked to really bring the whole room together for that full tropical vibe you’re looking for. Using decor ideas to finish off a tropical bathroom will take your room from basic to beautiful with a few simple steps:

Plants

Plants are the obvious feature to be brought into a jungle theme bathroom to really give it some authenticity. Add a few tropical plants to your bathroom to further enhance that feeling. You do need to bear in mind, however, that a bathroom is not a suitable environment for all types of plants. Check out our Handy Guide to Bathroom Plants to find out which plants will thrive best in your tropical bathroom.

If you’re not the best at looking after plants, we recommend fake green plants. You still get that tropical design, without the extra work of real house plants!

To really bring the outside in, why not take a combination of plants to create a living wall? This piece of wall art will really elevate your jungle-themed bathroom and create that glorious feeling of indoor outdoor living.

Accessories

Whether you opt for chrome brassware or style it up with black or brass, you want to make sure that your accessories tie in with the bathroom to really complete those final touches.

The Imperio Matt Black accessory range perfectly compliments the black Nero brassware you may have chosen.

Don’t forget a bathroom mirror or bathroom vanity unit can also be a prominent feature in a bathroom so be sure to select one that suits the decor already chosen.

The same applies for a bathroom towel rail which is no longer just to keep your towels toasty, but to add a sense of style to any bathroom.

Home accessories such as candles, ornaments and tissue boxes can complete your new tropical bathroom so don’t be afraid to add these in to give your new jungle theme bathroom the wow factor. Voilà! Say hello to your brand new tropical bathroom!
