What Is The Inlet And Outlet On A Radiator?

Do radiators have an inlet and outlet? I am sure it is a question on your mind, and the answer is yes, people are usually not sure on the radiator inlet and outlet location, in this blog we will have you covered so you are fully equipped with the knowledge for the future. So,let's get started on how to tell the inlet and outlet on the radiator in simple easy steps.

Locate The Valves

The best way to find the inlet and outlet of a radiator starts with simplifying finding the valve at the bottom of the radiator. More often than not, the radiator inlet and outlet on the same side as the radiator. It could be either manual or thermostatic. Manual valves are a traditional on and off for controlling the hot water flow, while on the other hand thermostatic valve inlet or outlet work on a simple adjustable flow base, depending on room temperature.

Direction Of The Valves

After you have worked out the inlet and outlet valves on radiators. The next best thing to do is determine if it’s an inlet or outlet valve. This can be easily done by checking the direction of the valve

If it is facing in the direction of the radiator, that will be the inlet valve in which the hot water enters. Then as you can now work out, if the valve is facing away from the radiator, that will be the outlet valve in which the hot water leaves your radiator.

Radiator Inlet And Outlet Temperature

If you are struggling a bit still, you can always determine the inlet and outlet valve on your radiator by simply checking the temperature. The pipe that's connected to the inlet valve will be hot, so do be careful as this carries all the hot water into the radiator itself.

On the other hand the pipe connected to the outlet valve will be a lot cooler, only because the outlet valve will have already carried cool water through the radiator. To keep it very simple radiator inlet - hot outlet - cold

Bypass Valve On Radiator

One element that is worth mentioning is that certain radiators have a bypass valve. This valve is responsible for regulating the flow of hotter water into your radiator. Usually, the bypass valve is situated near the inlet and outlet valve to help aid the balance of distribution of hot water between various radiators in your home.

If your radiator has a bypass valve, it's key to set it correctly to ensure a perfect performance on your radiator.

Still Struggling?

If you feel you are still struggling to find the inlet and outlet valves you may want to check any manufacturer instructions you have or seek qualified help from a professional so they can provide you with specific guidance.
