Don’t worry! In this blog, we will help you learn how to replace a radiator with a towel rail.

Chrome Towel Rail That Has Been Fitted Into Bathroom

The Tools:

Remember to turn off your heating system before you start the process. You must also drain the water from the radiator to make the installation process safe.

Here are the main tools you'll need during the process:

  • Rail kit
  • Wrench
  • Cutter
  • Screwdriver
  • PTFE tape
  • Bucket
  • Spirit level

Step 1: Removing the Radiator

  • First, after switching off the heating system, let the radiator cool down.
  • Once it’s cooled, use a wrench to disconnect the valves.
  • Place a bucket under the valves to catch any water leakage.
  • Use a pipe cutter to remove the pipes connected to the radiator. Temporarily cap the open pipes to prevent water leaks.

Step 2: Measuring and Marking

  • Measure the space where you want to install the towel rail. Make sure it is wide enough to accommodate the device.
  • Use the spirit level to mark the desired height.

Step 3: Fixing the Rail Brackets

  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and attach the brackets to the wall at the marked height.
  • Fix them to the wall using screws and anchors.
  • Use the level once again to ensure the brackets are parallel before the next step.

Step 4: Connecting the Rail

  • Assemble the towel rail following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Fix it onto the brackets. Tighten the screws.
  • Connect the towel rail to the central heating system with the valves and fittings.
  • Use PTFE tape on the threads to prevent any leaks.

Step 5: Testing the Rail

  • Switch on the central heating system and check for any leaks.
  • Wait till the towel rail heats up and check if it’s working properly.

We hope these steps will help you in replacing your existing radiator with a new towel rail safely and smoothly.
