Whether you fancy yourself a sleek and style satin finish black towel rail, or a timeless chrome ladder towel rail, it’s important you know how to keep your bathroom radiator clean.

Keep reading to find out the best ways to keep your heated towel rails in pristine condition, and what cleaning products you should be steering clear of.

What You Should Use To Keep Your Bathroom Radiators Clean

You might be surprised to find out you don’t need a basket filled with cleaning products and tools to maintain the condition of your towel rail. Most required items you probably already have in your home!

Equipment You Need:

  • Microfibre cloth
  • Warm soapy water
  • Duster
  • Tin foil

Products To Avoid

Now you know what to use to clean, it’s best to know which products we strongly recommend you don’t use.

Cleaning products which are marketed to remove 99.9% of grease, limescale, and stains actually contain a lot of harmful chemicals. Cleaning products such as bleach, and cleansers containing chemicals such as hydrochloric acid are a big no.

Harsh cleaning products can actually cause damage to your towel radiator by removing the finish. We recommend going back to basics and using the above items we suggested to make sure you don’t void any warranty!

You should also avoid cleaning tools such as scouring pads and wire wool as this will damage the surface of your radiator.

Best Ways To Clean Heated Towel Rails

There are different methods you can use, depending on what it is that you are cleaning.

Before you begin cleaning your heated towel radiator, you want to make sure it is turned off and cooled down completely. Switching off towel rails ahead of cleaning will prevent you burning yourself whilst you are reaching into the nooks and crannies.

Dust

The easiest dirt you can remove from your towel rail is dust. Simply use a clean duster to wipe down your towel radiator, efficiently removing any lingering dust.

This step should also be carried out before you clean any other marks or stains on your heated towel rail.

Now you have a clean surface on your towel rail, you can begin cleaning. Luckily most marks you will find on your towel rail can easily be removed.

Watermarks

If you find you have a lot of watermarks on your towel rail, using warm soapy water should do the trick. Wipe down the area, you might need to put a bit of force into it to remove older marks.

Using a mixture of warm soapy water won’t damage the surface of your towel rail as it is non abrasive.

Once you have successfully removed any marks, use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe any remaining water. You should be left with a smooth and watermark free surface.

To prevent watermarks developing on your heated towel rail, you should wipe down the surface with a dry cloth regularly to remove any condensation and water splashes after you have had a bath or shower.

Fingerprints

Fingerprints and streaks can be annoying to see, but similar to watermarks these can easily be removed most of the time.

Using warm soapy water you want to wipe down the surface of your towel rail, and pay extra attention to those pesky fingerprints.

Finish this off by buffing out the surface with a dry cloth.

FAQ’s

How To Clean Chrome Towel Rails

Chrome heated towel rails are a timeless and modern addition to your bathroom, but they do require regular cleaning to maintain the appearance.

Regularly clean your chrome heated towel rail with a damp cloth, and buff out the surface using a dry microfiber cloth.

If you notice any lingering marks then use a soapy water solution as suggested above.

How To Clean Rust Off Heated Towel Rails

Due to the damp environment in bathrooms, rust can easily form on chrome heated towel rails if they aren’t maintained properly.

Luckily, you can effectively remove rust using a household staple - aluminium foil! It might sound unbelievable, but the results will leave you shocked.

Simply rip some strips from a roll of tin foil and roll them to form balls. Dip the rolls of foil into clean water and rub the areas of rust on your towel rail. The water will act as a lubricant between the foil and your towel rail.

The aluminium will create a reaction with the chrome, effectively removing the rust with immediate results.

This approach to removing rust is not limited to your towel rail, this method can also be used on other chrome fixtures within your bathroom.

How To Clean Behind A Towel Rail

Cleaning the surface that you can see is important, but cleaning behind your towel radiator is equally as important. Out of sight, out of mind does not apply here!

As with the front of your bathroom radiator, make sure the towel rail is switched off and cool to prevent burning yourself.

Using a long handled duster you should be able to reach behind the towel rail to remove dust.

If you notice any marks and stains which you can’t easily reach, then use an old toothbrush to reach these places. It is important that the toothbrush has soft bristles to make sure you don’t damage the finish on your towel rail.

Now that you are equipped with the knowledge to maintain your heating, you can give your existing heater a refresh, or you can start fresh with a brand new towel radiator.

We stock a wide range of different types of towel rails. Varying in size, colour, and style to make sure you have an option that suits your aesthetic.
